Museum Pass and under 18

I will be taking my 17 yr old daughter to Paris in April. Its the first time for both of us. I was planning on buying a museum pass for myself to avoid waiting in the long queues. However, I%26#39;ve read it is not worth it to buy for a teen because they get in for free in some museums.

Question: Does a person who gets in free still have to stand in the queue with their passport to prove their age? Or can she skip the queue like someone with the museum pass?

I think you might want to consider the museum pass for your daughter. I%26#39;m not aware of someone getting in free at some museums because they are a teenager. In fact, I can%26#39;t think of one museum, but maybe I%26#39;m wrong.

Almost all of the major national museums and all of the City of Paris museums have free general entry for persons under 18 ( Louvre, d%26#39;Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Picasso, Arts Decoratif, etc)---as do many others. When these under-age are accompanying someone with a Carte Musee %26amp; Monuments pass, they may by-pass the ticket queue as well. But some museums (Louvre and d%26#39;Orsay most notably) which allow free under 18 admissions may require proof of age. In most cases, all that is required is a copy of the information page of their passport.

We were in Paris during Summer 2003. My husband and I both purchased the museum pass (a great deal) and our children got in free at all the musuems we went to (Louvre, Musee d%26quot;orsay, Musee Picasso,Arc de Triumphe and Rodin) . We used the special entrance at the Louvre with no problem. Some museums (I believe the picasso) required that we get a %26quot;ticket%26quot; at the window but that was it. This is suppose to be true for children under the age of 18. Good luck!

It%26#39;s also worth noting that for some of the major museums, teachers, with a valid ID (employee ID, NEA, AFT, etc) card are also allowed free entry--I know that Louvre and d%26#39;Orsay offer it but I%26#39;m not sure which others.

Never heard of children getting in for free--must be a new thing. You may want to have your daughter bring her school ID card, because there are definately discounts at numerous places for student. Can%26#39;t hurt to try. D%26#39;Orsay early in the am would be a good place to go first to get your pass, as there are shorter lines there. Be prepared for somewhat cold weather in April (we were there last spring with our 18 year old daughter and her friend). We were really thankful we brought a warm coat, gloves, hat and scarves. It didn%26#39;t rain much (1 day only), but it was cold! Make sure you do museums in the am, because, trust me, with daughters and moms it%26#39;s easy to get sidetracked with SHOPPING, and then you run out of time for the touring. We always picked one place/tour to do in the am, then the rest of the day we walked our feet off just shopping and exploring (bring lots of moleskin!!--we went through 3 packages of it).
