Your other favorite place (in France or elsewhere)

I know theres a few people here who are %26quot;regulars%26quot;, so this post is for all of you. Just curious of your favorite place you%26#39;ve visited?

Maybe this can open up some ideas or place for future trips for everyone.

It can be hard to compare some places, like big modern cities vs old historic towns, etc. But one of my favorite places has to be Dubai (United Arab Emirates). If you%26#39;ve never heard of Dubai, or don%26#39;t know too much do some research. It%26#39;s an awesome place, clean, friendly people, amazing hotels, the beach and desert all in the same city, beautiful buildings, great shopping and shopping malls, a million gold stores, and great restaurants with good food for good prices.

It currently is home of the 7 star hotel burj al arab, and under construction are the manmade palm islands , and world map islands which will be cool. these are manmade islands off the coast in the shape of palm trees and the world map and will have hotels, etc on there.

The desert safari was a nice experience, and as always, its interesting to be around other cultures.

For those americans who might think %26quot;middle east = unsafe%26quot; do some more research and you will find thats not true for many places. I felt safer in dubai than in Dallas, Texas at many times. If anyone wants to know more email me longhornneil@hotmail.com , or for pictures.

Ok ive typed enough. How bout you guys?

Cornfellow,

Provoking some thought, eh? Well, I%26#39;ll bite at least. OK, so I%26#39;m somewhat of a conformist in that Paris is my absolute favorite city in the world, but some of my other favorites: Venice, IT(again conforming to the norm); the little town of Morges, Switzerland on the coast of Lake Geneva (really almost anywhere on Lake Geneva: how beautifully idyllic); Bora Bora (but boy is it expensive!); Lahaina, Maui; Victoria, British Columbia; Monterey/Carmel; Tokyo and Kyoto; Hong Kong; Vienna; Lake Como, Italy; Positano, coastal Italy; %26lt;pretty soon I%26#39;m going to cover all of Italy...sorry%26gt;; Zermatt, Switzerland

Cornfellow - hook%26#39;em horns! Fellow longhorn here.

Paris is my favorite city, hands down. Other cities/region I love ... Brugge, Belgium; Cinque Terre, Italy; Venice, Italy (must go back in the winter time); Tuscany, Italy; Amalfi Coast, Italy; Tokyo; Tahiti; Kauai, Hawaii; Scotland; London (most expensive though); India; Costa Rica

Would love to visit ... Prague, Egypt, Greece (Santorini and other islands), Australia and New Zealand; Xian, China; Scandanavia; Ireland; Machu Piccu, Peru; would love to go to Africa ... so many places so little time and money ...

I second TravelBug on Brugge, Belgium. Very romantic, very historic, good food, lots of fun, not outrageously expensive. If you have a special honey - go to Brugge.

|||

Wow....you people have done some serious travelling. I%26#39;m extremely envious!

My favorite places: Paris....will always be #1 in my heart; Dublin, Ireland; Whistler, British Columbia; Wyoming; Colorado.....(yes I%26#39;m a former ski-bum!)

|||

The places/ cities that are my favourites: Paris of course, Niagara Falls, Montreal, Kyoto in Japan, Venice in Italy, States/ cities in the US: Boston, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire (very beautiful in autumn), Vietnam: Hanoi, China- Beijing, LiJiang, South Africa: the safari parks there and yes, Singapore.

Well after travelling quite a bit, I have decided that France is my favorite place, the whole country. Other countries of the world are interesting but for me France is it! Paris is number 1 and I adore going along their coast in warm weather. The Normandy coast from Honflu down to Mt. St. Michel/St. Malo area, the south coast of Brittany, Conconneau (many others) and the Atlantic beaches down to Biarritz, Bayonne. People friendly, outstanding coastline, not unlike northern California, good roads, wonderful people and great food. Prices are reasonable and there is history, art, culture at every turn.

Throughout the whole country there is something totally different to visit from small ancient hilltop towns to wonderful modern cities.........Provence and all its wonderful towns and ancient history, the Loire valley with its chateaux, wonderful ancient churches everywhere, beautiful cities like Lyon, Orleans, Rouen, Reims, Strasbourg, skiing or mountains in the French Alps and on and on. Most of the country is temperate, although sometimes the weather can be annoying but if patient, it will often change and if not there is always someone selling umbrellas!

So much has been preserved or rebuilt after the war. It is such a proud country and its people so warm and friendly. Many outstanding leaders of the world have made France their home, some by birth some by choice.....Throughout history, the French have been leaders in so many areas and continue to be, in my opinion. They take care of their people, work very hard and play just as hard. They tend to respect their history and preserve it and their countryside, when they can (though they are spreading out more and more).

I have left out the cote d%26#39;azure because for me, that area is not for me, but it too, has much to offer and parts of it are very beautiful. No matter where you are in the country, you are only a short way from another culture..... Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Britian, the Nordic countries, Eastern Europe.........totally different cultures..........never ceases to amaze me.

Ok so put me down for France.......................

Put me down for all of France, and all of Italy too! As lovely and stylish and delicious as France is, Italy has also a special place in my heart for all its natural beauty, its art and history, its delicious flavors and cooking techniques, and the warmth and hospitality of its people. The Amalfi Coast is incomparable, Venice is a dream come true (and you feel you are in a dream the whole time you are there, maybe because it is fleeting....sinking and future generations may not enjoy it as we do), Florence has a depth of richness....food, jewelry, its lush green rolling hills in the outskirts, Michelangelo%26#39;s sculpture, Bruneleschi%26#39;s architecture, the Medici legacy, etc., and the Italian Riviera has a panache of its own. Of all the places I have been SO FAR, Italy and France are at the top o the heap.

Cinfuego Cuba, for a Sunday spent dancing salsa on the water front with the locals from noon to the early hours...

Hoi An Vietnam for tea in a villager%26#39;s home after a bay at the beach and a glorious sunset in solitude...

Burma, for an incredible human spirit in the face of complete in humanity, the midninght train to Mandaly and byriani at the market....

Zanzibar for the spice scented air as your boat pulls into port, red colubus monkeys who are not afraid to jump down and surprise you as you pee behind a tree, and the antique colonial buildings and the night fair during Ramadan...

Uganda for dancing in the village at four pm everyday with the school girls, hippos swimming under our boat and elephants surprising us around the river bend with a splash and a loud trumpet call...

Jerusalem for the breathtaking beauty, incredible history and the Wailing Wall....

Canada for a country that supports gay marriage, tolerates small amounts of marijuana, and has socialized medicine....

Amsterdam for all that Canada has plus, the romance of the canals, great indonesian food and some pretty fantastic museums....

Venice for living up to all expectations and then some!

I guess that%26#39;s enough for now. Thank you for the question, it has brought back some great memories

California Coast up Highway 1 from San Simeon to Pacific Grove thru Big Sur and Carmel--You can%26#39;t get much better than that! Yosemite.

I love Paris and never tire of going back. The drive from Paris down to the Mediterranean coast near the border of Spain is amazing because there are mountains and valleys you never expect when you think of France (with white water rafting, rock climbing, hiking, etc.) and the Little Yellow Train ride through the Pyrenees is unbeatable. Driving from Chamonix in the Alps (with Mont Blanc coming right down to the highway) into Aosta Italy is a thrill.

I love Ireland--so green and comfortable. Friendly people, wonderful pubs, and beautiful rugged scenery.

Italy is wonderful (Venice isn%26#39;t my thing)--loved Lake Como, the Adriatic coast and into the small hill towns, and Santa Marqarita near Portofiino is picture perfect. Italy%26#39;s a good bargain in Europe.

The tropics are really my favorite--Panama (a real adventure with opportunity to stay with indigenous indians, and beautiful beaches for swimming and snorkeling, Costa Rica, Belize. I%26#39;m dying to go to Fiji, Tahiti, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand.

Hawaii is hard to beat and my favorite is Kaui.

The drive from Vancouver, B.C. to Whistler Mountain is breathtaking!!!!

The Redwood forests in Northern California are magnificent and the drive up the coast isn%26#39;t bad either.

New Orleans is a must see city in the U.S., unlike anything else in the States --- and great food!

Yellowstone National Park--what can I say.

But, best of all, my favorite place in the whole wide world is where I live near Seattle, Washington! (rain and all)
