What to Wear in Paris??

HI, me and my girlfriend will be going to Paris in the last week of April into the first week of May and we don%26#39;t want to stick out as tourists that much, does anyone know what the locals in their 20s normally wear? is it jeans or khakis for the guys? Also we%26#39;ll be staying in the 16th near the trocadero, any special interests in this area like good dining or shopping?? thanks!

I%26#39;m going at the same time, and am planning on bringing an umbrella! Although I find the idea of not looking like a tourist ridiculous.....my lack of french will take care of that....I think it%26#39;s a good idea to stay away from running shoes. Comfortable shoes are a must, but we tend to live in our jogging/running shoes and from past experiences, Parisians do not! Jeans and khakis are good.....as long as they are neat and not ripped.

I was always told to dress as if you are dining out with your Mom....not fancy, but clean and casual.

Hi Peruco83 - if you scroll back about 10 pages or so you%26#39;ll find there%26#39;s a fair bit of discussion about how to dress without looking like a tourist. Apparently one of the latest fashions in shoes is bowling shoes. No runners, dress up rather than down. Enjoy - I%26#39;m going there in 21 sleeps and can%26#39;t wait!

|||

You really want to know?

OK, don%26#39;t wear runners with white socks and pressed jeans. Don%26#39;t wear baseball caps with your favourite teams logo on it. Don%26#39;t wear some awful shopping mall polo shirt with it%26#39;s sterotypical designer label.

Don%26#39;t wear hiking belts in which you can hold a bottle of water.

Don%26#39;t wear light plastic shower-proof jackets with the name of some college team on the back.

Don%26#39;t wander about the place with cameras strapped to your belts or around your necks - take a rucksack.

Do not wear clothing which has the Stars and Stripes blazened across it.

Do not shout.

The majority of tourists we get in the city are aware that they ARE tourists but it is good to see someone actually wanting to blend in. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy.

Oh, Peruco83, it%26#39;s %26quot;my girlfriend and I ...%26quot;

Thanks alot for the info, and the correction too. I%26#39;ll make sure to pack an umbrella.

|||

I would add... don%26#39;t wear a backpack.

This raised some eyebrows from the locals, but my kids make a game of picking out the tourists by the brand of there packs and you can actually watch pickpockets casing out tourists who wear them on their backs, as they make a very easy target.

so you stay near trocadero, then you can go to palais de tokyo 5 min from troca, take a coffe at totem with the view of the eiffel tower, go to musee marmottan near ranelagh (monet paintings there), to shop in the 16th i like to go rue de passy (frank et fils is a nice big shop, with clothes, objects, candles etc 2 floors, and lots of nice shops rue de passy) or rue de longchamps and near (rue de la pompe, av victor hugo). 16th is a cool district, that%26#39;s my favourite to live, and for me the most beautiful, with lots of parks around, trees more than in some other arrondissements. you can go to ranelagh it%26#39;s a nice park if the weather is nice it%26#39;s great to walk, and around there are streets with so beautiful houses, at la muette. i like le petit pergolose, it%26#39;s near porte maillot in the 16th, there is a restaurant called bon rue de la pompe, i%26#39;ve never been but it seems very fashion, it was designed by starck. if you like modern art, the museum of modern art is near palais de tokyo, in front. you can go to chalet des iles to have dinner, it%26#39;s in bois de boulogne on an island it seems very nice, the %26#39;house%26#39; is good looking and people told me the food is nice.

if you can spend money, cristal room baccarat should be nice, i saw pictures it%26#39;s simply beautiful, it%26#39;s also a museum and i want to go there. i like la gare also, it%26#39;s an old subway station that became a restaurant, the food is ok. if you like american food, go to coffee parisien, nice ambiance, i go there often.

ang if you shop rue de passy, GO TO THE COOL lol, and take a part of the starlette cake, it%26#39;s so good and not caloric, they only have the receip and keep it secret. it%26#39;s near passy plaza, a shopping gallery, 20 meters from there.

if you want to buy a magazine until 2 am, or if you have a headache late or want to buy some food, go to drugstore on champs elysees, it%26#39;s near the 16th.

for all the adresses, www.pagesjaunes.fr, type the name of the restaurant or what you want near name and paris 16 in front of localite.

hi there,

i would take some warm clothes with you for sure as it tends to be bit cold at that time of year there.i went around that time last year and it rained a lot!!

people in paris are very individual in their dress sense and it is very understated. however, why don%26#39;t you wear what you want?i%26#39;m sure it would be fine.

oh and fly-one, it is generally accepted that in the english language there is what is known as a turn of phrase!!me and my girlfriend is generally accepted as a form of colloquial speech.

Pardon my ignorance, but I only speak English and Spanish. Can someone translate yymca6 comment for me please?
