Buy Carnet at Airport?

Hi,

I%26#39;d be coming to Paris next week and would like to know if I can buy a carnet at the airport or do I have to buy it at a Metro station? At the same time, I%26#39;ll be staying at the Hotel de la Porte Doree and will be taking the Air France Bus from the airport to Gare de Lyon. Wat%26#39;s the best way for me to get to the hotel? I%26#39;m not confident about the Metro yet is taking a cab expensive?

Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

The only place at CDG that you can purchase Metro CARNETs will be at the RER ticket kiosk down in the SNCF/TGV/RER station, connected to CDG terminal building #2

Other than that, you will have to wait until you arrive at your destination in Paris and make the purchase at the nearest Metro station. a couple of blocks from your hotel:PORTE DOREE

A taxi between Gare de Lyon and Porte Doree will be (roughly) 15E, and it is normal if driver charges an extra Euro for each bag. We took a taxi once from Gare du Nord to Place Monge (5th) and it was about 10E if you want to compare distances on a map.

Rember though that while you can buy a carnet of metro tickets at the airport they won%26#39;t be any good until you actually get to Paris. To get to the city you%26#39;ll need a train (RER) ticket to Paris.

Hello Checkers,

If you take the A/F bus to gare de Lyon, you could go into the station (entrance right there by the AF stop to downstairs) find the metro ticket sales office and buy a carte orange there. Stay on the lower floors until you find the metro ticket office. It is a large gare, but signs are good, and you can follow the signs back to the 29 bus exit. You can also buy a single ticket on the bus, but you will need to have close to the price of the ticket in Euros...about 1.25E. A CO will be available at the Porte Doree metro station later.

Instead of a taxi you could take the public bus #29 right there almost where you get off the AF bus to very close to your hotel. Take it about 8/10 stops (along avenue Daumesnil) to the place Felix Eboue (a large circle with lions usually spouting water). Get off the stop right AFTER the bus goes round the fountain and walk a few blocks down avenue Daumesnil to your hotel, several blocks. (You could take the #46 bus, going east, at the circle down to your hotel too, if you dont want to walk.) It is really a pretty direct route and easy to do. If the first 29 bus should be very crowded, just wait for the next one. The center back part of the bus by the back door is open and luggage is a regular thing there. If you have a C.O. you just show it to the driver, if you have a single ticket put it in the little validator machine near the driver and keep it until your trip on that bus is finished.

A taxis at that point is sometimes hard to flag down. There is a taxi stand up at the exit from the gare and most taxis get their fares there. If you take a cab you might do better to go to that point to get a licensed cab....some on the street are gypsies and charge more.

The 29 bus is a good one for you to take later too, toward gare St.Lazare. It is a long ride, goes very close to many big tourist areas, Place des Voeges, the Opera Garnier, the large department stores ending at gare St. Lazare. If you get off when it hits boulevard de Sabastopol or (farther along) at boulevard de Opera and walk toward the Seine you will be close to many well known sites and the Ile de Cite.

I think you will like this area and I have heard from a friend that the hotel Doree is quite nice. Have fun and enjoy!
