2 days in Nice then TGV

Will be in Nice for 2 days after a cruise to Cannes and Monte Carlo, besides doing laundry before traveling to Paris, what does one suggest to NOT miss in Nice. Oh, any advice on traveling from Nice to Paris on the TGV?

Don%26#39;t wait until the last minute for your TGV reservation. That is a heavily travelled route used by locals, businessmen and conference goers as well as tourists. The trains do sometimes fill up, even during off season travel times and they will not overbook.

Things you should see in Nice: Promenades des Anglais, the market at the Cours Saleya, the old city, the Museum of Modern Art, the Castle hill (colline du Chateau), the old port. These attractions are all located downtown, so close to each other and they can all be seen in 1 day.

As for the tGV your seats MUST be reserved in advance. It can be done through a web site (www.raileurope.com). Make sure you choose first your country of residence (USA) then you make your reservations online and pay online. This is the cheapest way and the travel agents use this site to buy TGV tickets then they charge you 35$ to do the job you could have done for free. You can buy your tickets up to 2 months before departure. The trip is about 6 hours (the first 3 to go to marseilles then you really have the fast train since it is 3 hours from marseilles to Paris). You get down at the Gare de Lyon in Paris.Keep your luggage with you in the train since the luggage area is not locked...

We%26#39;ll be in Nice March 21 for 2days before heading for Paris, would appreciate suggestions to make this Do-it-yourself travel fun.

1. For 2 days (Mon-Wed), what%26#39;s the reasonable schedule like for visiting major tourist attractions in the vicinty.

2. Can it be done by taking public transit, or a rental car necessary. Is there local tour that we can join?

3. For rental car, how about parking? Do hotels charge extra for it? what%26#39;s the average parking rate in the vicintiy?

4. TGV: Nice to Paris -%26amp;gt;

What%26#39;s the difference between 1st and 2nd Class ?

How about sleeping arrangement in night trains?

any extra charages?

What one can do on the train, beside dinning?

Any not-to-miss visita points to be ready taking pictures?

Thanks

We%26#39;re planning to be in Nice Mar 21 Mon, 2005 for 2-3days before heading for Paris. This would be our do-it-yourself project yet would like to keep the costs down.

1. If possible like to visit all major tourist attractions near Nice. Will public transit sufficient or rental car necessary?

or there are some local tours that we can join?

2. For car, how about parking? Do hotels charge extrat?

What%26#39;s the average parking fees ?

3. suggestions for inexpensive 2-3* hotels tha are conveniently located.

4. TGV (Nice to Paris):

what%26#39;s difference betwen 1st and 2nd class?

What%26#39;s night train%26#39;s sleeping arrangements?

extra charge even for 1st class?

What do you do on the tain?

What major not-to-miss vista points to be ready

1. If possible like to visit all major tourist attractions near Nice. Will public transit sufficient or rental car necessary? Depends if you stay close to the seashore or not. Anything close to the shore can be seen by bus or train. Otherwise you may need a car (FOR ST-PAUL-DE-VENCE FOR INSTANCE)

or there are some local tours that we can join? Check on Nice%26#39;s city website for info on tours, there aren%26#39;t that many. 2. For car, how about parking? Both private and city parkings Do hotels charge extrat? Yes usuallyUSUALLY

What%26#39;s the average parking fees ? from 10 to 15 euros a day 3. suggestions for inexpensive 2-3* hotels tha are conveniently located. LOOK IN THIS SITE IN THE NICE HOTELS SECTION. WHAT IS INEXPENSIVE FOR YOU AND ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AN APT OR AN HOTEL ROOM?

4. TGV (Nice to Paris):

what%26#39;s difference betwen 1st and 2nd class? NOT MUCH ACCORDING TO MY EXPERIENCE. I WOULD GO 2nd CLASS

What%26#39;s night train%26#39;s sleeping arrangements? NO NEED TO TRAVEL OVERNIGHT, TGV LEAVES IN THE MORNING AND YOU GET TO PARIS 6 HRS LATER

extra charge even for 1st class? ALWAYS MORE EXPENSIVE 1st CLASS

What do you do on the tain? YOU READ, YOU SLEEP A BIT (IT%26#39;S LIKE BEING ON A PLANE EXCEPT YOU CAN WALK WHENEVER YOU FEEL LIKE STANDING UP TO THE OPPOSITE OF A PLANE RIDE)

What major not-to-miss vista points to be ready

taking pictures PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS. CASTLE HILL, THE PORT, VILLEFRANCHE-SUR-MER AND THE AREA, MONACO, CANNES, THERE IS SO MUCH. SEARCH A BIT FURTHER IN PREVIOUS POSTS

we have just returned from nice after spending 6 days there. Fab so much to see. Highly recommend Nice old town. Jump on the train to Italy for the day --- even for a couple of hours. The train service is spot on so easy to understand and only costs 6.20 and takes about 30 mins There is a great Irish bar on Rue Droite in the old town called O.malleys also a cheap English pub around the corner which sells the cheapest beer called Waynes. We visited the chateaux on the top of the hill in the old town on our last day and the scencery is awesome---- but be careful we were so engrossed in the scenery and watching the boats coming in my camera case was stolen while I was distracted--- luckily I had my camera in my pocket

Nice to Paris is about 5.5 hrs, go first class as the cost is not that much more than coach, sit on the top deck if you can, much better views. we never book in advance we just turn up and they always have had a seat even in the peak season, if you have a schedule to stick to then it is best to book just in case. The TGV takes the same time to get to Marseille from Nice as the old trains, I found the old trains had a much better view as the tracks are closer to the coast than the TGV tracks. or was I just so impressed by the view the first time I was there that it seemed closer??! Oh and if you are late too bad because the doors just shut and you are off.

Check also www.easyjet.com. For instance in May they have one-way tickets from 15 euros to 46 euros (fare depends on departure time) and you can either go to orly or CDG. That is cheaper than the train and faster too.
