My husband and I would like to visit a couple of champagne house in Epernay for a day. Can I get a reccomendation on where to pick up a rental car on our way out of town? For instance, can we take a metro to the outskirts of town and pick up a car in order to avoid driving in the city.

You could take RER B to CDG airport and get a car from there, or there may be rental places around Disneyland, which is on your way. It is also very easy to got to Epernay, from Paris via train and visit that way.
