Need help on getting a taxi in Paris!

When I was in Paris last, there seemed to be a problem with getting a taxi. I only remember getting a taxi without any problem in front of the EiffelTower. That was the only taxi stand I remember. Even on the Champs Elysees after leaving Planet Hollywood, there was no taxi stand. Is there a list of where the taxi stands are in Paris? I don%26#39;t think Paris taxis respond to hailing in the street so what to do?The hotel always called a taxi for us in the morning, but the problem was getting back later in the day. I just don%26#39;t like to be sitting at lunch worrying about how we%26#39;ll get back to the hotel.

L%26#39;Indispensible map of Paris marks all of the taxi stands in the city with a circle and a little T. You can pick it up at any news stand upon your arrival, or they may have it in a bookstore near you. I am looking at mine right now and I see about a dozen on the Champs Elysees.

You could also ask the restaurant staff to call a taxi for you, or the location of the nearest stand. And the cabs with the dome lit up will respond to being hailed from the sidewalk.

To take a taxi :

If at a taxi station, just take the first one on the line (the closest one to the T sign). There is taxi stations almost everywhere near the main streets.

If hailing one in the street : check that the %26quot;Taxi%26quot; white light is lit, which means that the taxi is free. On Champs Elysees, the taxi stations are located on top (arc de triomphe) and bottom (place Roosevelt).

It the orange little lamp beneath the main white Taxi sign is lit, this means that the taxi is not available. We are used to call the cab company to get a taxi, so don%26#39;t be surprised if a taxi that seems to be free is in fact heading to the meeting address to pick up his clients and don%26#39;t answer your hailing.

Note that the taxis are forbidden to pick up passengers elsewhere than the taxi station in the rail stations and airport vicinity.

The easiest way to get a cab is to ask to the restaurant where you are to call one.

I always think that there is not enough taxis in Paris, compared to London or New York. Another axis of evolution for us !

Denys, What Paris may lack in taxis, she more than compensates with her excellent public transportation services!

GoodtoGo,

Would you mind looking up your taxi stand map and be able to tell me if there is one near the Madrid Opera hotel, rue Geoffry- Marie, 9th arrondissment or closest available one.

Many thanks.

Good2Go : yes but when you need a taxi at 6 pm, it%26#39;s a pain! Sometimes the public transportation is not enough, and I really don%26#39;t understand why we don%26#39;t have as many taxis as in London.

Yes it is a pain, and now that London has created the car tax, there are even less cars keeping those taxis from circulating, another plan Delanoe should seriously consider!

For my money, I think Amsterdam and Berlin have it going on with everyone opting for bicycles.. less noise, less pollution and less stress, it would be a friendlier, happier Paris.
