General Packing Q?--Anyone use Spacebags?

We are trying to pack one small suitcase for each person--could fit in the carryon compartment. I got the idea off some traveltip websites that using the spacebags--compression bags to get the excess air out of items, was a great way to go. My question is--have you used this idea...how did it work when the baggage inspectors opened your bags, I am sure they don%26#39;t take the time to recompress your items. Was your stuff a mess out of the bags when your baggage arrived? What about at customs, was it more of bother than a help? I am concerned that if I compress stuff (especially our ski clothes) then they open the bags they will not be able to get the bag shut without recompressing the items. Please pass this on to any travelers you may know that have used these bags. THANKS

I have not used these in a suitcase (great idea though and I am so glad you brought it up) only with sleeping bags. Logically though, since you only zip, then roll to remove the air, it shouldn%26#39;t be that much trouble if you really are that thoroughly %26quot;inspected%26quot;, right?

I am thinking about the luggage inspections that take place when you are not with your bags...in the US they put a tag on your bag that they have opened your bag. I know those guys won%26#39;t have the patience it takes to get the zip lock closed, and then roll it up and get the air back out. That %26quot;isn%26#39;t in their job description%26quot;, you know what I mean? They will just stuff the stuff back into the suitcase and if the zipper won%26#39;t shut, %26quot;hey, not my problem%26quot;. And thier goes our stuff all over the baggage ramp.... These space bags take some effort to get them packed nicely so your stuff isn%26#39;t wrinkled beyond recognition and keeping them closed while you compress the air out isn%26#39;t always easy. On the inspections where I am with my bag, I will step to the side and get everything back in it%26#39;s place.

Is there anything we should know about cutoms in Paris or Toulouse that will help us get in and out faster?

I%26#39;ve used these bags a number of times and they work very well. I%26#39;ve never had a problem with inspectors opening them up. They save a lot of space and allow you to pack more. Clothes come out fine if they are folded properly going in. I highly recommend them.

You might need to watch out for going over your weight allowance when using them though as you can pack alot more into one bag, making it quite a bit heavier. I%26#39;ve never had a problem with inspections when I%26#39;ve used these bags. I would also recommend them.

Thanks for the good rating on these bags. I will use them for sure on the ski pants and sweaters. I think we will be ok on the weight as our bags are so small to start with. But I will weigh them as I don%26#39;t want any surprises at the airport.

Thanks for asking about these bags. I was considering them also, but wasn%26#39;t sure if they would be worth the trouble. I think I%26#39;ll probably pick up a couple also.

Ive used different brands of space bags and my only complaint is that they sometimes come open on their own. A big advantage of space bags is that if you need to pack damp items or dirty laundry, they will keep the rest of your clothing clean and dry. Clothes dont come out any more wrinkled than other packing methods, including cubes, that Ive tried.
