I booked the Hyatt Madeleine on Malsherbes, 4 nights...

I hope it is not too %26quot;Americanized%26quot; since it is a Hyatt,but I read pretty good things about it. I hope it has a hint of Paris charm.

Does anyone know of good places for breakfast near this hotel?

That seems a bit high -- I hope that price includes airfare. My two daughters and I stayed there a couple of years ago. Not real fancy but close to anything but within walking distance to shopping, Rue de la Rivioli, the Opera Garnier, AM EX, and other major locations. Please check to see if breakfast is included. Ours was and it was a great buffet: ham, fruit, croisssants, yogurts, and beverages. This is the street of Alexandre Dumas%26#39;s last house in Paris and its still standing. His monument is also on this street but far away. We are returning to Paris Feb. 16-21 and we wanted to be closer to other locations so we are booked at the Abbatial St. Germain. I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for all the Paris Forum info especiall to Alex, KDK and Bea. Bon Voyage!

I replied to your earlier post and suggested the Lavoisier. The Hyatt is literally within one block and it is not Americanized at all (My wife and I frequently stay at the Lavoisier). If you like shopping and dining, you could hardly have picked a better location. You are very close to the Grand Magasins (Printemps and Galleries Lafayette), the place Madeleine and rue St. Honore. Also, you are within walking distance of many of the major historic sites.

As for breakfast, there are Cafes and Brasseries on the corner of Avenue Malesherbes and Boulevard Haussman if you feel you need a cooked breakfast, but there are many small boulangeries and patisseries in the neighborhood. Also, two of Paris%26#39; most famous food stores (Hediard and Fauchon) are a two block walk to Place Madeleine.

A few neighborhood secrets: If you have forgotten anything, or you want to grab bottled water, toothpaste, hairspray etc. go to the Monoprix (its a mini dept./drug/grocery store) just down the street on Malesherbes. Roulian%26#39;s on Boulevard Haussman just east of Malesherbes is a great Men%26#39;s store for Zegna and Kenzo. The toy store on the corner of Malesherbes and rue Lavoisier specializes in toys made from wood that make wonderful gifts and my wife%26#39;s favorite teas come from Bertlesman across from the hotel on Malesherbes. There is a wine store (cavist) on Bouldevard Haussman called Aue (spelling ?) that has a very helpful staff and a phenominal depth of selections. Finally, one of the best things in the neighborhood is a late night glass of champagne in the Hyatt%26#39;s lobby bar (chinoiserie).

You have made a very nice choice.

thanks you guys!

but no it does not include airfare.

It is hotel alone.

|||

Wow, that is very high. Is airfare included?

|||

No, again, airfare is not included nor is Breakfast . I thought the Champs elysees was an expensive area and that the Madeleine was a very good hotel. Am I mistaken? Have I wildly overpaid? Is there something as good,but less expensive that anyone can share with me? Or even as expensive,but better value for money? I don%26#39;t know, I thought this was a good choice. I booked on the Hyatt website and it was supposed to be a special deal.

You definitely overpay at $500+ a day. A room at $300 would probably be as comfortable and nice looking. Read previous posts, decide where you really want to stay and then make a decision. For instance a previous post mentions the Luxembourg Parc Hotel which is very nice but at 200 euros ($250) a night for 2 people. Great situation, nice rooms.

Remeber that you will be in Paris, you are not staying 20 hours a day in your room and you probably will be asleep most of the time you will be in room...

In evaluating the %26quot;value%26quot; of the hotel, you need to understand how the competitors are priced. I suspect that some of the respondents do not know the hotel or may be confusing dollars with euros (remember your euro rate is 30% lower than the dollar figure). Also, this hotel is only a notch below the finest hotels in Paris (the grand palaces, Athenee, Gerge Cinque, etc). You can definitely find cheaper accomodations, but they will likely not be up to the same standard.

If you want a good comparison, try the Sofitel Demure (their luxury level) Hotels (www.sofitel.com). They are part of the largest hotel chain in France (among the largest in the world) and have several very nice choices in Paris. The %26quot;Le-Faubourg%26quot; hotel is the most comparable in terms of location. Its a very nice hotel. As a large company, you can sometimes find attactive rates.

Good luck, keep us posted!
