rue cler or st. germain??

I enjoyed my stay in the rue cler area last summer but am intrigued by the postings I%26#39;ve read re: staying in the St. Germain neighborhood and am wondering if that would be a good choice for this summer. Any recommendations from those who know both areas?? I%26#39;m traveling solo, so safety, close to transportation is important...thank you.

What do you have in mind for a budget? It would help in recommending anything in the area of St. Germain.

St. Germain des Pres is an excellent neighborhood, in the center of Paris and close to everything, just make sure that whatever hotel you book has air-conditioning. Youre libel to need it during the summer.

I%26#39;m hoping to find something in the $100 to 150 a night range. Nothing fancy at this range, I know, but clean and welcoming would be nice.

100 to 150 USD, including tax, is a fairly low budget for a nice hotel in this area. You may want to reconsider and use a budget of 150 to 200 USD to get a little closer to something a bit nicer.

Your budget of $100-$150 puts your into the 2-star range for moat of the upper 6th-Saint Germain des Pres (try to get as close to the Seine as possible). Within this price range you have some very good choices. Among these are:

HOTEL de SAINT GERMAIN-- http://www.hotel-de-saint-germain.com/

GRAND HOTEL des BALCONS-- http://paris-hotel-grandbalcons.com/

WELCOME HOTEL-- http://www.welcomehotel-paris.com/index.html

BUT...the problem with most 2-stars in this neighborhood will be that most will NOT have Air Conditioning...which can be a big PLUS in high summer. Rates will also be slightly higher in this neighborhood, as compared to the rue Cler %26#39;enclave%26#39; of the 7th-- simply because it is much more active and interesting---with a great deal MORE (sights attractions, good restaurants, cafes, more interesting shopping, etc. all within easy strolling/walking distances of most hotels. It will also have excellent Metro/bus connections to everywhere else in Paris.

thanks for your help... In addition to your suggestions KDK, I am also considering Hotel Bonaparte and Hotel Europe St. Severin. Is anyone familiar with either? So many great recommendations..it%26#39;s becoming hard to choose! Also, when is a good time to book a hotel for August travel?

I have also heard good things about the Hotel de Fleurie. I think it will fit your budget- the pictures on the internet are really nice- good reviews on this site also. They have promotional specials also.
