We will be in Juan les Pins for 3 weeks in March. So excited and so much to see in la Cte d%26#39;Azur.We will have a car in Nice when we arrrive. We are planning to visit part of Provence; not interested in big busy cities; we would sleep over 2-3 nights. We were thinking of Aix en Provence as base but please give me your opinions of where and what I should see. I have a list but it is great to read what the real poeple have experienced. Merci!

Sage - you will love Aix. It is a special town with lots of energy. If you can, plan on getting there early on a Tues, Thurs, or Saturday for the market. As a base, you might want to think about staying a bit further north in the Luberon area. Absolutely gogeous scenery and a world apart from the coast. We stayed near the village of Rousillon and loved it. Spent the days strolling around one village after another. Did some wine-tasting. Isle-sur-Sorge was great as well.
Enjoy.

If you like to to get away from big cities, you must visit Les Baux de Provence (http://www.lesbauxdeprovence.com). It is magnificent there. I went to Provence, mainly just to visit this village. I stayed in Eyguires during my visit in Provence. The hotel was called La Bastide / Toutbel (http://membres.lycos.fr/toutbel). The lady keeper is very kind and she makes lovely apple pies for us for breakfast. The town is small, only one restaurant. Although it does look empty, but it does decent meals.

Thank you Arlinfla %26amp; First time in Italy for your input.these places are now on my list. It%26#39;s so much better to get suggestions from people and not just the travel books.

Sage -
Glad to be of help. The place we stayed at, by the way, is called Le Mas Perreal. Great spot and excellent hospitality.

Hi! Dont forget to visit Marseille.. The old Port is picturesque, there are good shops here and you can eat well. The Marseillaise are very friendly to foreigners compared to Parisians. Cassis is very close by, and is also beautiful. Eating sunday lunch on the Port front is wonderful (and affordable). You can catch a boat from here to visit the Calanques too.
Have fun!

Dont miss the Verdon canyon which is the most famous canyon in Europe. You can do it by foot, by car, by canoe or climbing...
We stayed in Greoux les bains which is a nice village between the Luberon and the Verdon canyon, well situated to go east and west.
Look at www.villa-borghese.com to have an idea of the country.
