We are a family of 5 (3 adult %26amp; 2 children) and would like to know the most economical way to travel to Cannes this June. We are not interested in driving, as my youngest one gets car sick, so I guess our options are train, or flying. If by train have we a choice between the TGV, and slower regional trains, and if by air are there any budget domestic airlines we can try??
Hope you can help.
Cheers, Terry

Hmm, I don%26#39;t think that Cannes has an airport that offers any low-cost flights so you really have a choice between flying with Easyjet from Paris to Nice for about 400euro (3 adults %26amp; 2 children) or get the TGV.
There are sleeper trains that are cheaper than the TGV but it all depends on if you want to spend a night on a train or not (the TGV takes 5 hours).

To make any recommendations meaningful, you need to provide more details of your proposed itinerary. If you are arriving at CDG and then plan to spend a few days in Paris, then travel onward to Cannes, that%26#39;s one set of options/alternatives. If you plan to arrive at CDG and go directly to Cannes, by-passing Paris, that%26#39;s a whole other set of options. If you plane to leave Cannes and depart directly from CDG--by-passing Paris still another set applies.
But, there are both direct TGV service (no train changes en route) from CDG to CANNES and budget flights from CDG to NICE (http://www.easyjet.com/ ---neither RyanAir nor BMI fly from CDG to NICE) There are direct (no train chenges en route) TGV and overnight train connections from central Paris---Paris-Gare de Lyon and Paris-Gare Austerlitz to CANNES.
Since much of the relative costs will depend on itieratry (one-way fares or round-trips) you need to provide specifics. You can begin researching the relative merits and costs of each option/alternative through:
FRENCH NATIONAL RAILWAYS--SNCF-- www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/_SvHomePage…
--to avoid (or at least mimize) confusion and aggravation in using the SNCF site, use dates within a range of thirty(30) to sixty(60) days of the current date--approximating the days of the week for your proposed travel dates (weekday/weekend) for approx. schedule, fare, fare discounts) research purposes.

Many thanks to both of you for your help.
I ended up looking up EasyJet on the web-site you mentioned, and to my surprise I ended up getting a fantastic deal. For only 161 euro total price for a 1.5hr flight for 5 people flying from Paris Orly to Nice. Compared to about 400Euro for a 5hr train trip.
Now all I need to know is how to get my family from Bussy St George to Paris Orly Airport. The plane daparts at 15:35. We will still have our Carte Orange ticket, so I hope we can take a train either straight to the airport, or somewhere close, before we catch a shuttle bus. Hope you can help?
Cheers, Terry

Hmmm, if you%26#39;ve got a CO that%26#39;s valid in Bussy-Saint-Georges then it%26#39;ll take you to Orly also but you%26#39;ll have to pass through Paris
(Chatelet-Les Halles) which seems like a pity as it%26#39;s only about 30 miles as the crow flies.
It%26#39;ll take you just over an hour to get there on the RER with a change or two (route on ratp.fr) but as soon as sncf.fr is working it%26#39;ll maybe give you a regional train option that may take you direct.

You can figure out the routing and timing of this airport transfer by using the RATP%26#39;s ITINARIERE feature at it%26#39;s web site-- http://www.ratp.fr/ (Click on flag for English)
Use BUSSY-SAINT GEORGE as your Departure %26#39;..STATION..%26#39; and AEROPORT ORLY as your Arrival %26#39;..PLACE..%26#39;. This feature will provide you with specific Train and approx. Travel Time Infomation. Ifd you use the ORLYBUS routing, your entire transfer will be covered by a Zone 1-5 Carte Orange transportation pass. Absolute minimiun travel time from the time you step onto the first RER A train until you stepp off of the ORLYBUS will be 75 minutes...but this does not take into consideration ANY time for train waits delays in locating your train platforms at Chatelet-Les Halles or finding the Orlybus at Denfert-Rochereau. I%26#39;d estimate the transfer to take betwween 90-110 minutes.
I%26#39;m not familiar with any airport shuttle van services from Paris suburbs like Bussy-Saint George but I do know that there is a VEA shuttle from Disneyland Paris to ORLY. This might be one of those times when you by-passed thrift and took the shuttle.

if you like perfumes, when you are in cannes, you can go to grasse it%26#39;s the world town of perfumes, there are museums where they show you how perfumes were made, like molinard, fragonard or gallimard.

If SNCF.com isn%26#39;t working try

Thanks for all the info everyone, but just a couple more questions.
KDSAIL you mentioned the ORLYBUS, and Denfert-Rochereau. Is this a bus service, and where is Denfert-Rouchereau near, as I couldn%26#39;t locate it on the RER map.
I tried using the RATP%26#39;s itinariere web site you suggested, but was unsuccessful in finding a route. I put in departing 11/6/2005 from Bussy St George at 12:00 , allowing 2 hours travelling time as per your advice, this would get us to the airport at 14:00, giving us an hour before checkin closes before our flight departs at 15:35 from Paris Orly. If you don%26#39;t mind can you try it as well. Ive probably done something wrong, so once again I%26#39;m relying on you.
|||
If your Carte Orange is still valid why don%26#39;t you use it to go to a Air France shuttle station (Montparansse train station for instance which is 30 min away from orly). Or check this shuttle company http://www.a-t-s.net/index.php (I use it in Nice on a regular basis)

DENFERT-ROCHEREAU is located down near the southern edge of the 6th-Saint Germain des Pres. The progression of stops for the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne (RER %26#39;A%26#39; marked in bold-RED; RER %26#39;B%26#39; marked in bold-BLUE on maps %26amp; diagrams) for you will be Chatalet-Les Halles...Saint Michel-Notre Dame...Luxembourg...Port Royal...DENFERT-ROCHEREAU (the next stop beyond this is Cite Universitaire). Once at Denfert-Rochereau, you must leave the RER/Metro station to the street and find the stop for the ORLYBUS at the intersection of Blvd. Saint Jacques (approx. 1-2 blocks east of the RER station) There will be signs which say ORLYBUS.
I%26#39;m not sure why you%26#39;re having problems with the RATP site...but try it again:
http://www.ratp.fr/ %26gt;%26gt; CLICK on the %26#39;Jack%26#39; for English %26gt;%26gt;%26gt; ENTER: Bussy-Saint George in the window for %26#39;..Departure..%26#39; and Check the STATION box....ENTER: Aeroport ORLY in the window for %26#39;..Arrival..%26#39; and Chck the PLACE box. %26#39;Under My Preferences%26#39; Select ALL MODES. Then Click on SEARCH. The next window that you see should be the routing from the Bussy-Saint George RER station to ORLY. You can also Click on MAPs of the local RER stations. The one for DENFERT-ROCHEREAU will show you where the stops are for the ORLYBUS (Navette) from the train station, along Blvd. Saint Jacques. You can print this routing and individual maps out to carry with your as a handy reference %26amp; aide mamoire.
