Roissybus Questions

I hate ask more about this transportation issue, but, I would like more specifics about the Roissybus. We are flying in on American Airlines. Where would we go to catch this bus? Looks like it goes to two terminals, anyone know if one of those is the American Airlines terminal? We can or cannot use our 5 day metro pass for this bus--we are getting zone 1-3, so I assume we cannot? Looks like we won%26#39;t wait more than 15 minutes for the bus.

We are staying at rue Rochambeau near Cadet metro stop, so I figure we can take the bus from the airport to the Opera and then get on #7 metro up to Cadet. We will have our bags, traveling with just one rollered bag, that can fit in the upper carry on space for each person. My 9 year old can handle his bag and daddy can have his and 6 year old%26#39;s bag. Is this size of luggage a problem on the bus or metro at 10 in the morning?

Lugging your luggage on the metro can be an issue. First of all, you are tired, jet-lagged, and unfamiliar with your surroundings. You are a prime target for a pickpocket. So watch yourself.

In moving through the metro turnstiles, your cumbersome luggage does tend to get stuck as you pass through. If two or three of you are traveling together, just work with each other and you should be OK.

Now, here is the problem that I foresee for the Roissybus. How are you going to pay for it? If they only take cash, you have a problem. Good luck in finding a working ATM in CDG. However, if you take the RER B into town, you can pay with that using a credit card.

BTW, when (what dates) are you traveling?

We are arriving at 9 AM on Feb 18 and we take the TGV to Toulouse at about 8 AM on Feb. 23. My son loves trains so we are going on the TGV to Burgandy and then on to Toulouse.

You won%26#39;t be able to use your 5 day passes for this bus, as the airport is in zone 5. And you will be fine on public transportation with your luggage at 10am.

Instead of getting on a bus and then transfering on to a metro, you may want to consider taking the RER B directly to Gare du Nord, very near your final destination, it is a bit simpler and a bit cheaper, but if you want to take the bus here is a link to the CDG Terminal 2 map to find your bus stop.

Oh, and you should be able to use your credit card to pay for the tickets if you don%26#39;t have the euros on hand, although you may want to consider getting $50-$100 worth to have just in case. You wouldn%26#39;t be the first traveler to have credit card problems upon arrival in Paris, and while they are easily resolved, sometimes it can help to have the cash on hand.

If you are arriving on an American Airlines flight, then you will arrive at CDG terminal buildg #2-A. All you need to do is exit the French Customs Control point, step oot onto the main terminal concourse and trurn RIGHT until you come to EXIT #9, step out the terminal exit doors and the ROISSYBUSS stop will be right there. OR...exit cuctoms, walk directly to the nearest terminal exit door and step out onto the sidewalk; turn RIGHT and walk along the curb until you bump into a ROISSYBUS (or one runs you down from behind). If in doubt, ask almost any airport employee you encounter, %26quot;..ROISSYBUS, sil vous plait??..%26quot; and they will point you in the right direction. This is almost %26#39;..idiot-proof..%26#39;.

Print the portion d=for CDG 2-A and carry it with you.

You should also be aware that while the Roissybus takes you to the Opera, the metro stop is a few blocks from the dropoff location and you will have to navigate those few blocks with your luggage in tow. I second the suggestion that you take the RER B to Gare du Nord.

|||

these are great replies... and I%26#39;m wondering about what I should do now too... especially since the metro at the Opera is a few blocks away. I am staying near rue cler at the ecole militaire metro stop... I%26#39;m not opposed to taking the RER and metro system at all since we are traveling light but I%26#39;m really not sure how to get from a to b. What would you suggest???

|||

I%26#39;m not sure what you mean about not taking the metro at all as we are packing really light.

If you were planning on taking the bus to the Opera, you are actually pretty far from the rue CLer area. The closest direct bus (and probably easiest way for you) will be the Air France bus to Les Invalides, followed by a short walk to the rue Cler.

If you wanted to take the RER B to St Michel then you could transfer to the RER C and get off at Les Invalides for the same walk.

Hey Cybertraveler,

I might be on the same flight as you (#44 from JFK?) since I get into Paris the same time as you do. I have done the RER train into the city before, so if you want to tag along with me, let me know.

|||

Get out your Paris street map (you do have a good one already, right??) The terminus for the ROISSYBUS is out in front of the main AMERICAN EXPRESS office, at the corner of rue Scribe %26amp; rue Auber. The walk from the drop off point to the entrance to the OPERA Metro station is 1 1/2 block. Then the #* Metro ligne (in the direction of BALLARD) to ECOLE MILITAIRE. If your destination is the Rue Cler area, then there are NO convenient onward Metro connection from ANY of the stops along the RER B-3 ligne nor are their any for the termini of either the #2 or #4 AIR FRANCE COACH routes.

Pix...We are coming in from Dallas, I will check the flight time again, but I think it is 9AM arrival.
