Are credit cards, mainly MasterCard and american Express widely accepted in restaraunts in Paris?

AmericanExpress is a toss up, I%26#39;d say about 50/50.

Don%26#39;t know about MC, but VISA is accepted virtually everywhere.

Both MASTERCARD and VISA (with the slightest %26#39;edge%26#39; to VISA) are widely accepted in most restaurants cafes stores and shops in Paris. They are also accepted at a lot more places--perhaps even more so than in the US. As has been suggested AMEX is a %26#39;toss-up%26#39;. with an even lower acceptance rate than in the US.

MasterCard and Visa. Definitely VISA is preferred at some of the family owned restaurants and I also noticed VISA was also preferred by the gas stations in smaller cities. Although they did take MasterCard.
