Buying a Metro Pass

My wife and I will be arriving in Paris from Munich via rail. Our train will be coming in to Gare de l%26#39;Est. My plan was to purchase our Metro Passes there, but a friend of mine said that not all of the train stations sell them. Is this correct? And if so, does anyone know if they are sold at Gare de L%26#39;Est?

While there is no Paris Tourist Information kiosk at Gare d%26#39;Est--http://www.paris-touristoffice.com/va2/otcp_locaux.html ---you can certainly make you way down from the SNCF train platfom level to the Metro level of the station and purchase all forms of Transportation Passes, Carnets, Tickets, Museum %26amp; Monument passes at the Metro ticket kiosks at Gare d%26#39;Est. In practice, if you were planning to take the Metro onward, this would present no inconveniece or difficulty. If you are not planning to take the Metro onward, then you would probably be better served by waiting until you had reached your hotel or other accommodations in Paris and then simply use the ticket kiosk at the Metro station nearest to it.

Anyplace that you can take the metro will always have someway of selling you the tickets. Otherwise what would be the point !

Some stations though don%26#39;t have anyone manning the desk last at night and instead you just have a ticket machiine to get by.

How long will you be in Paris? Do you want a Carte Orange, or a one day pass, the Mobilis? Both are useful, and better value than Paris Visite.

The other postings were right, too - train stations aren%26#39;t the right place to buy Metro tickets, but the Metro station itself will do so. Signage is good in the Gare de l%26#39;Est from train platforms to Metro.

We will be there for 6 days and plan on visiting areas outside of the central zone, so we are looking at the Paris Visite card. With everything that I have read, it makes the most sense for us.

Then you can purchase your PARIS VISITE passes at ANY Metro station. But before you decide to purchase more than a VISITE pass for more than Zone 1-3, ask yourself how many trips are you likely to make outside of central Paris during your stay? The difference in price between a Zone 1-3 and Zone 1-5 VISITE is 19,05 Euros. So you would need to make at least two or more trips beyond Paris (Versailles, Disneyland, Chantilly, CDG or ORLY, etc) within the passes five(5) consecutive calendar day term. You might be better off with a Zone 1-3 and simply purchase individual RER tickets. (round-trip Versailles 8-9 Euro, DP-12,20 Euro, Chantilly 9-10 Euro, one-way CDG 8 Euro).
