Restaurant with 6-8 course tasting menu - suggestions...

Hi - We%26#39;re looking for one truly fabulous, special meal, preferably 6-8 set courses. It doesn%26#39;t necessarily have to be an excessively fancy place, just one that has a larger tasting menu than the usual 3 course fixed price menu, and remarkable food, of course. Would like something that doesn%26#39;t cost more than $80-90 per person.

Can someone please suggest a place that fits this?

Try L%26#39;Astrance. They%26#39;ve long had some of the best food in Paris, nearly on a par with the utmost of fine dining, but at a fraction of the price. They have recently gone to only a prix-fixe menu which is still slightly higher than your max (about 90 Euros per person) but well worth it and actually a relative bargain at that price.

Another possibility is Jacques Cagna, also fantastic and close to your range for the menu degustation. Gerard Besson and Jamin are also lovely and excellent, but a little higher in price.

The problem is that dining at a house of fine dining in Paris is the most expensive form of dining in the world. It can be routine to spend $700-$1000 for two if you order the tasting menu and have wine with dinner at such places as Alain Ducasse, La Tour d%26#39;Argent, etc.

One other possibility is to try lunch at one of these temples of haute cuisine. Fewer courses, but still fabulous food in a magical environment at a small fraction of the price. My favorites are:

1) Taillevent

2) Pierre Gagnaire

3) Guy Savoy

4) le Cinq

5) le Grand Vefour

Happy dining!

We have been sending visitors to Benoit and they just rave about the place, and it seems to offer an extensive tasting experience in a fun environment.

Bonjour,

it is wright that it will be difficult to find a 8 set-menu at 65 euros...but 1000 is a bit exagerating!

You have to know that such a menu in Paris is either for %26quot;gastronomes%26quot; - but VERY expensive, at least 150 euros per head + wine - or for tourists -cheaper but very boring...

If you want to stay with this budget you have to avoid the star-rated restaurants. I can advise good places to eat for such a rate like GASPARD DE LA NUIT (near Bastille)

Taillevent is one of the best restaurants in the city and their tasting menu is 180E/person, lets say you order a 100E bottle of wine and 20E bottle of water, you are at 480E, which is not a far cry from $700.

But, there are lots of great places that don%26#39;t necessarily have Michelin stars...L%26#39;Epi du Pin is a very popular place with a Michelin bib, which means a great value for the money. Unfortunately, I don%26#39;t think they have an eight course degustation menu.

Le Bamboche by Claude Colliot has a menu degustation that you may enjoy, but you have to be willing to eat very french cuisine (I feel on a day when they were serving a foie gras soup, delicious, but rich and not to everyone%26#39;s taste!)

thank you so much for these great suggestions. didn%26#39;t realize that tasting menus were always that expensive in Paris (the really upscale French restaurants i%26#39;ve been to in Boston and Montreal have amazing tasting menus for about $85 - $100 per person.

will definitely have to try one of these options in Paris, though - not very often that you%26#39;re in the city known for its gastronomical delights!

This one is for Good2GO - could you tell me what was the price of the degustation menu at Le Bamboche?

I visited their website and the dinner sounds incredible!

I am not sure, but my memory is telling me about 70E/person with wine, perhaps a tad less. You shouldn%26#39;t hestitate asking them when calling to make a reservation. It is a small, intimate little place, the food was great and very inspired.
