One final, extravagant night

This is kind of an odd question....but an unexpected monetary gift has just landed in our laps and we are considering using part of it for one extravagant final night in a hotel to cap off our trip. We%26#39;ve already booked our B%26amp;B apartment, so will need to extend our stay an extra day for this. (It%26#39;s a tough job, I know...just glad we haven%26#39;t booked our flights yet.)

I%26#39;m excited at the thought, but where to stay?? There are so many wonderful hotels. Alas, the Bristol is already full for that night, but what of the others? I wouldn%26#39;t mind large and grand....or a small, boutique place...no matter the size, it needs to be first-class and glorious. :)

Looking forward to your suggestions.

What great opportunity to get to ask that question. The Ritz is rather glorious, the Crillon sumptuous and I have a particular penchant for the small boutique-y Relais Christine.

Our millionaire friend swears by the Montelambert and the neighboring Port Royal, but I don%26#39;t know if that is glorious enough.

I am partial to the Plaza Athenee but our friends like the George V.

What a wonderful problem.

You%26#39;re right DCBA, I%26#39;m too rive gauche on this one. Plaza Athenee

oo sounds cool

i wish i had unexpected monetary gifts land in my lap now and then :P

enjoy your final extravagent night

It is a difficult problem, to be sure, but I%26#39;d pick the George V.

I know you%26#39;re looking for a hotel reservation and all of those offered are excellent--as you might expect. If it were within our travel budget, I%26#39;d probaly opt for the Meurice but any of the other will do at least equally well.

But instead of spending your fortunate windfall on a hotel, since you%26#39;ve already expressed an interest in La Tour d%26#39;Argent, why not opt for another dinner at another %26#39;..grand temple de cuisine..%26#39;--Tailievent, Le Grand Vefour, l%26#39;Ambroise, etc?? OR...indulge yourself in some otherwise extravagant souvenir of Paris--a piece of art, an antique, objet, etc...something for your home to remember Paris by??

KDKSAIL,

Good suggestion and it%26#39;s one we%26#39;re mulling over. If nothing else, the thought of dragging all of our stuff to another place for just one night doesn%26#39;t sound so appealing. But after looking at some of the websites of the suggested hotels....wow....it might be worth it. But we are definitely considering all options. I like the idea of having a tangible memento of the trip...like you said, perhaps a piece of art for our home, etc. Much to consider.

Grateful for everyone%26#39;s suggestions. And like someone else said, this is a nice problem to have. :)

The Four Seasons George V is the best bet for hotels and there are enough designer shops within walking distance to put a dent in any monetary gift.

For dinner, I%26#39;ve heard %26quot;Le Cinq%26quot;, their main restaurant is excellent but one our stay we managed never to have more than lunch their. In my opinion, the best %26quot;blow a huge sum%26quot; for a truly terrific experience restaurant is Lasserre. One of the oldest, most respected and yes tasty places in the world. The experience starts with a posh elevator ride from the lobby to your table and (weather permitting) the entire roof retracts for a romantic experience thats tough to beat. The wines are world class and the staff is not %26quot;over the top%26quot; stuffy. Coat and tie required for men and the women are usually dressed to the nines. Have fun!

If you go for the art memento, there is a collection of great galleries on the rue St Anne where you can find a good array of interestng pieces at reasonable prices (by reasonable, I mean in the four figures.)

The Ritz no question. And while your there go to the Hemingway Bar and have Colin (the most famous bartender in the world--google him!) make you a custom coctail. He will ask you some questions about your day, find out a little bit about your personality and then make you a drink that he thinks matches you perfectly. Also, go to Georges, the restaurant on top of the Pomp. Centre. The staff is model-y and snooty, but the food is very good and there%26#39;s a 360 view of paris that%26#39;s worth putting up with the %26#39;tude for...
