Marseilles and TGV

We end a tour in Nice, and have two more days to visit.. is Marseilles a good choice? If so could we then take the TGV directly to CDG?

Definitely. Go on http://www.raileurope.com/canada/index.htm and get your tickets from them. Your travel agent will get them from this site anyway and he will charge you 35$+GSt for doing the job.

Marseilles is 3hrs train ride from Mice and 3.5 hrs from Paris by TGV. There is a TGV leaving around 9AM and you get to gare de Lyon around 12:30.

For your train connections go to -- www.SNCF.com --. If this site doesn%26#39;t work go to -- www.Bahn.de --.

CDG infos are availiable at -- www.AdP.fr --.

Thank you very much VVMca6 and Bill 2005 I appreciate your comments.

I have a question for VVMca6...Indications are that you are from Montreal...would you say that the Paris Metro operates somewhat the same than the Montreal Metro; are there major differences that I should be aware of. Thanks

Montreal Metro is a copycat of the Paris Metro. Gates are very similar except for one thing, in Paris you have to recoup your ticket from the ticket machine whilst in montreal it is kept by the machine. Of course the Paris metro is huge compared to the Montreal metro (this is for me the fastest way to get around in Paris). get a Mobilis pass (go on the Metro site http://www.ratp.com/ to get relevant info).

If you buy your TGV tickets from the Raileurope site, you have to wait %26#39;till 60 days before departure to make your purchase but you can pay in CDN dollars with your credit card. Believe me, it%26#39;s the cheapest place for us Canadians

Marseille is a great place to spend a few days. It is France%26#39;s second major city and the ambience is so different from Paris. I went with a girlfriend this summer and I think that the highlight for us was hiking the Calanques and the Arab market. We missed the Panier neighborhood and the Chateau d%26#39;If, but my daughter was there last spring and it was the highlight of her visit.

We found Marseille to be dirty, we left the next day

|||

Didn%26#39;t like Marseilles either. Nice is a lot nicer, cleaner and less crowdy(and so is Cannes)

do you already have some sort of TGV pass? If cost is any type of concern for you, as it was for us, you may want to check out EasyJet. We%26#39;re flying Paris-Marseilles round trip for about 35E per person, where the TGV was 135+ euro per person. go to easyjet.com to book.
