Hotel d%26#39;L%26#39;Avre in the near 15th is quite pleasant. A 2*, ranked 20th on TA, the most expensive room is 77E. It%26#39;s one half block from Motte Picquet Grennelle metro (3 lines) and easy walking distance to Eiffel Tower, Swiss Village, Invalides...

The neighborhood is mostly old style residential...many shops, patisseries etc, especially on Rue Commerce and Rue Theatre...and if you choose breakfast at the hotel...extra croissants and another pot of coffee are yours for the asking.

Now..I love the 5th and 6th...but for a budget hotel, this is pretty nice.

Try the Hotel Henri IV- it is located on place dauphine in the 1st Arr. - it IS right in the center of Paris. 5 min to the Louvre, Notre Dame etc. Double with shower- share bathroom on same floor runs 45 Euro. No email- so you must call to reserve. They do speak english. Phone # is found on fodors or frommers website. Good luck

How cheap is cheap? With only 23 hours in Paris, I had to maximise my time, so stayed at the New Hotel on rue St Quentin, right across from the Gare du Nord (handy for running into the station and leaping on the RER for CDG). About 65 euro for one person, 84 for two.

No petit dejeuner, but Paris does have one or two decent places to eat.....

You can also look at the Hotel Prince Albert Wagram, a 2 star hotel in the 17th, a quite area. The hotel has its charm and is really cheap...
