Do I have this right about the RER and Metro?

For the Metro we buy a Carte Orange because its the cheapest way to travel within Paris. We get there this Sat and leave on Thurs, so this is most economical. IF we decide when we get there that we could walk to many sites, we should get a Carnet of 10 tickets instead and this can be used in the same way, correct?

For travel to Versailles just get a ticket to Versailles as opposed to buy a zone 5 Metro ticket?

To go to Belgium, Brugge take the Thalys and we can use our Carte Orange to get to the Thalys?

Buy a RER ticket to get from CDG to our hotel in Luxembourg... I think this is the only one I got straight.

All this transportation stuff is still confusing to me... can somebody help to clarify.

Thank you

So far you%26#39;re doin%26#39; just fine.

Just to clarify for the Carte d%26#39;Orange. These tix are only valid from Monday to Sunday, so you will have to start your trip with a carnet, which is fine, because this gives you time to figure out if you really need the Carte d%26#39;Orange. You can even buy the carnet at the CDG RER counter, getting two things done at once.

Otherwise, you%26#39;ve got it all down. Bon Voyage!!

Bonjour,

in order to clarify:

1. The public transportation in Paris are : Metro, RER (city + suburbs%26#39; trains), buses and tramways.

2. 3 types of tickets exist : Carte Orange, Paris Visite and one-trip ticket. For the 2 first ones you have to choose the zones of validity : the city (Paris intra-muros) is zone 1, the first ring is zone 2 and so on; Versailles is in zone 4 and Charles de Gaulle in zone 5. Carte Orange is valid for 1 week, Monday to Sunday(it means 2 weeks in your case).

Paris Visite is for 1, 3 or 5 days.

The one-trip ticket is sold at the unit (1.40 euro) or by %26quot;carnet%26quot; (10 tickets : 10.50 euros)

more info on the site of the parisian transportation : www.ratp.info/informer/anglais/index.php

My advise : in Paris, all attractions are closed one from another, and you usually walk (a lot!). You need to make at least 5 rides a day to make a carte orange worth. Better buy one-trip ticket by 10, and additional tickets to Versailles or the airport.

NB : Gare du Nord (the train station for Thalys) is in the city, zone 1.

Have fun in Paris

Well, I%26#39;m off... I leave for Paris today at 9:40pm...I%26#39;m so excited.

This site was such a tremendous help... thank you so much.

Once suggestion though, it would be nice if there was a way to sort the posts by category. For example %26quot;RER%26quot; or %26quot;transportation%26quot; this would make it easier to look for what you only want to know about. Maybe have a dropdown menu to put all related questions, I think this would also eliminate redundant posts... just a thought.

I will thank tripadvisor by posting my Paris review as soon as I get back.

Thanks again.
