Versailles Day Trip

How long does it take to see all the sights at Versailles? Is there anything else to see in that area?

|||

I%26#39;ve heard that it only takes 1/2 a day, but that might be just for the suites and a small portion of the garden.

Madyson,

I believe from your prior posts you are going in February. If that is the case there won%26#39;t be much to see in the gardens. The Chateau took us a couple of hours to go through, but you can go at your own pace. There were also carriage rides and I believe some other form of transportation through the grounds, but I am not sure where they were going in November when we were there.

We also found a great crepe restaurant acroos the street from the train station in Versailles, A La Coiffe Bretonne. It is a nice stop for lunch before or after visiting the Chateau. The dessert crepes are to die for.

It depends on your level of interest. You can blow through the place in a couple of hours or you could spend a wekk.

I%26#39;m planning to get to Gate D at 9am so that I can sign up for the English speaking, guided tours. Has anyone done these? Will it be worth the early start compared to say, the audioguides? All opinions about how to have the best day at Versailles welcome.

Well, it is worth it to take the guided tours just to skip the lines. As for what else there is to see, thet gardens are still pretty spectacular, even in Feb. you get a good idea of their layout. There are the Trianon palaces to see, as well as the Queen%26#39;s Hamlet... and the town of Versailles is picturesque in its own right.

Has the Hall of Mirrors re-opened yet?

|||

I don%26#39;t believe that the Hall of Mirrors will be fully reopened for quite some time still. Maybe somebody can recollect the dates (sorry, I can still picture the scaffolding from my most recent visit in October, but I can%26#39;t remember the dates).

By the way, the audioguide is actually pretty good for Versailles in and of itself. As for the debate about the gardens, no they will not be as pretty in February as they are during the warm weather months, but they are still worth taking a look at and a slow stroll through even in February. All part of the Versailles experience. As for time planning, as a general rule, you should probably give yourself the entire day or at least the better part of a day, as it%26#39;ll wind up being so by the time you make the trip out there and back.

I have looked on the Chateau de Versaille site and can find no info on the Hall of Mirrors renovation. You can contact them directly if you want to ask what will be open for you dates. Here%26#39;s the email address: direction.public@chateauversailles.fr

I took a ParisVision Tour to Giverny and Versailles

in one day. The interior of the Palace was of great interest

and the tour guide was very helpful. I would have liked

more time to explore the grounds.

So could someone tell me what is going on with the Hall of Mirrors? Can you even see it at all?
