taking my 6 year old to Nice

Can anyone give me some ideas as to where to go with my 6 year old son in nice and surrounding areas?I%26#39;ve been taking him since he was a baby and I%26#39;m finding it difficult to entertain him.

I have been taking my toddler son to Nice for the past 3 years. Places he enjoyed were the castle grounds with a play park and waterfalls and he loved taking the minature tourist train there which frequently leaves from the promenade. We have also visited the zoo in Monte Carlo centre ville which is compact but very good. The changing of the guard at Monaco palace courtyard at 10.30 daily is something to see but you have to get there early!

A great day out is to take the train from Nice Gare to Biot station, then a 5 minute walk to Marineland with killer whale and dolphin displays etc. A waterpark with slides (high season) and petting zoo is right beside it. The beach at Villefranche Sur Mer is free, family friendly and not too busy. Places we haven%26#39;t visited yet is the Tropical park (near the Airport) and there is also an indoor amusement park at the palace Expositions in Nice behind the port - I checked out the website last year but can%26#39;t remember the web address! It%26#39;s called Luna Park.

We%26#39;re going back to Nice again this year. As you%26#39;ll probably know, the rail system is very good and all trains run frequently so we try to visit many of the nearby towns too. One place we%26#39;ll visit this year is the Oceanographic museum in Monaco which sounds pretty good. There is also a daily coastal boat trip from the port at @ 3.30pm which occupies an hour or so.

In all, I think Nice is more of a %26#39;business%26#39; city and the majority of attractions are in the surrounding areas but if you%26#39;re happy to take a short train ride there%26#39;s enough to keep a little one busy.

Hope this helps!

I normally go to Nice for a week or less and have a budget of @ 200-300 for accomodation. So far, we%26#39;ve stayed at the Comfort Azur Riviera, Nice Rivoli and Tulip Inn Brice. These hotels have been okay and the standard of rooms pretty basic (although the Tulip Inn does have a front garden where the staff were happy to allow my son to play with a ball). It%26#39;s been a game of chance to find somwhere I%26#39;m completely happy with, so this year we%26#39;re staying at one of the Mercure Hotels. The best bet is to go no lower than 3*.

Further to the above post, web sites are;

www.azurpark.com (Luna Park)

www.marineland.fr

www.visiobulle.com (glass bottom boat at Juan Les Pins)

www.petittrainnice.com (tourist train - also in Monaco Oceanographic Museum (www.oceano.mc) and Cannes promenade)

www.monaco-tourisme.com

www.nicetourisme.com

P.S. The changing of the guard at Monaco is 11.55 (not 10.30).

As before, the trains are so easy to use. Nice Gare has electronic boards showing all stations each train stops at and pick up a timetable (La fiche horaires des transports express regionaux) for easy reference. It seems there%26#39;s somewhere to explore at every stop! (www. voyages-sncf.com).

There%26#39;s also a large zoo at Cap Ferrat with tigers, bears etc (www.zoocapferrat.com) but I don%26#39;t know how accessible it is to walk to from Juan Les Pins train station ( may also have to get a taxi/bus).

Also, if you have any good ideas, please let me know. Thanks
