DCBA..your opinion please

Hi - You have replied to a few of our posts (looking for upscale, fun somewhat trendy restaurants) and seen to be knowledgeable and in sync with our tastes.





Here is our dining dilemma.





We in Paris for 3 nights in April. The first night we want to have drinks at our hotel (Four Seasons) and then dinner somewhere close by (perhaps in walking distance.) My husband found Goumard. We enjoy seafood and order it almost exclusively when we dine out. But, I am not sure about it - Patricia Wells gave it a bad review (Boring, dull food, not very fresh) and the nautical/ocean decor scares me. Have you eaten here? If you do not recommend it, what other restaurant might you recommend?





The second night, we are going to have drinks at the Plaza Athenee and then dinner at Masion Blanche.





The third day we are planning a day trip to Reims and lunch at Boyer Les Crayeres. We need to find something fun and more casual for our dinner when we return to the city. I was thinking maybe a bistro/brassiere.





Sorry this is so long. But you seem to travel to Paris a lot and we would love your advise.

I think we might try L%26#39;Avenue or Market instead of Goumard. Don%26#39;t you think that would be better??





We are also thinking of switching from the Four Seasons to the Plaza Athenee.

the go to market, l%26#39;avenue is a coste restaurant, where i go often, the food is ok but it%26#39;s better at market, the decor is better also, i think you will prefer it.

I have not yet been to Crayeres, but my experience w/ 3 star lunches is that I do not even want to think about eating that night. You may want to skip a restaurant altogether and plan on a cafe dinner, perhaps Fouquets, or L%26#39;Ecluse wine bar for something fun and really light.

One more question. What is the appropriate dress at Maison Blanche? Dark Suit or Brioni sport coat and black slacks? Also, would a Vera Wang knee length sleeveless platinum silk dress be overkill??? I would like to wear it (it is a fun dress) but don%26#39;t want to get their and feel over dressed.





Alexth82 as a woman, how formal do you dress when you dine at Maison Blanche?

when we had dinner there, i was well dressed, but not with a long and chic dress you see at the awards lol. juste nice black trouser with chic top and heels, my friend had a skirt with flat chic shoes and nice top also. the men were with a costume but some had no tie, i mean it%26#39;s chic but not like hollywood lol.

I have not eaten at Gourmand so I have no opinion. There is a very good upscale seafood restaurant about three blocks from you hotel on Avenue George V in the direction of the river called Marius et Janette. You won%26#39;t go wrong if you choose this restaurant.





If you are willing to travel a bit (a 15 to 20 minute walk) across the Seine to the 7th, you will find a new interesting (very small and intimate) seafood restaurant called Fables de La Fontaine. It is owned by the same chef that owns Violon d%26#39;Inges, one of the more popular two star restaurants in Paris. Fables is casual and has a bistrot feel, but you get the benefit of Violon%26#39;s kitchen which is two doors down on Rue St. Dominique.





I would not call either trendy, Marius on the formal side (they also have a less expensive sibbling next door) and Fables is relaxed, but chic as it is in one of the more upscale residential areas of Paris.





You can tell I am partial to Fables, but both are quite good.
